Presets and Preferences
Presets and Preferences in Raven Workbench
This document provides an overview of how to use Presets and Preferences within Raven to customize your workflow and application settings.
This applies to all Workbench applications.
Presets
Presets allow you to save and reuse specific configurations for various tools and views within the application. Instead of manually configuring settings every time, you can save a named preset and load it when needed.
Available Preset Types
| Preset Type | Description | Where it is Used |
|---|---|---|
| Gram Parameters | Saves spectrogram settings like window size, DFT size, window type, and overlap. | Spectrogram configuration dialogs. |
| Spectrum Calibration | Stores calibration offsets and units for different audio sources. | Calibration panel and signal source settings. |
| Annotation Keymap | Maps specific keys to annotation labels for rapid data entry. | Annotation toolbox and keymap configuration. |
| Table Columns | Defines which columns are visible in the selection table and their order. | Event Table. |
| Stamp Collection | Saves groups of "stamps" (pre-defined annotation shapes) for reuse. | Stamp toolbox. |
| Annotation Value List | Stores lists of predefined values for annotation attributes (e.g., species names). | Annotation review and attribute editing. |
| Chart View | Saves the visual configuration of charts, including axis visibility and colors. | Chart view configuration dialogs. |
Using Presets
Most dialogs that support presets will feature a Preset dropdown menu. From this menu, you can:
- Save: Save the current configuration as a new preset.
- Load: Choose an existing preset to apply its settings.
- Delete: Remove a preset you no longer need.
- Import/Export: Share presets as files with other users.
Preferences
Preferences control global application settings, such as themes, default file paths, and general UI behavior.
Updating Preferences
To update your preferences:
- Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences… (or use the application-specific shortcut, typically
Ctrl+EorCmd+E). - The Preferences dialog will appear, displaying settings organized by category.
- Modify the desired settings.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
- If you want to revert all settings to their original state, click the Reset button.
Finding Preferences (Search Feature)
The Preferences dialog includes a search feature to help you quickly find specific settings.
- Located at the top of the dialog, the search bar allows you to type keywords (e.g., "theme", "font", "path").
- As you type, the list of preferences will automatically filter to show only those that match your search term, making it easy to locate even obscure settings.
Tip: Most preference changes take effect immediately after clicking Apply, though some may require a restart of the application or reopening a signal window.
