Adding Measurements During Detection

Introduction

Many Raven Pro users who do batch detections ask if it’s possible to have Raven automatically add measurements while the detector is running so they don’t have to open the selection tables one by one to add measurements. The secret is the use of window presets, which are described in the Raven Pro User’s Manual on pages 71 – 74.

Protocol

  1. Open one of the recordings you want to run the your detections on in Raven Pro.
  2. Add the measurements that you want to be added every time you run a detection to the selection table.
  3. Optional: When you are done with this protocol these settings will be applied to every recording you look at in Raven Pro by default, so it probably makes sense to think through which default settings you want to change now. Window presets save: sound window size, view types, view axis parameters, grid configuration, color schemes, scale position, zoom level, spectrogram parameters, spectrogram brightness and contrast, selection table visibility and size, measurement list and annotation columns, selection label configuration, axis visibility, line title visibility, position marker configuration, selection button visibility, and scrollbar visibility.
  4. Save your settings as a window preset, and make that window preset your default window preset. For a detailed protocol, see Change Default Window Preset.

From now on two things will happen:

  1. The measurements you added in step 2 will appear in all your selection tables by default, including those selection tables generated by detectors.
  2. The layout and settings you set in step 3 will by applied by default to every recording you open in Raven Pro. Whenever you want to apply a different window preset than the default window preset, you can do so using the “Configure New Sound Windows” dialog when you are opening the recording, or after the recording is open by selecting “Window Preset” in the View menu, and choosing the preset you want to apply.

Raven Version

This article assumes you are using Raven Pro 1.6, which can be downloaded from Raven Pro Downloads.

If you have Raven Pro 1.5, you must create a measurement list preset using the Choose Measurements interface and then update the “raven.preset.measurementList.defaultPreset” property in RavenPreferences.txt.
