Multi-channel Recording

INTRODUCTION

Raven Pro 1.6 and Raven Lite 2.0 do not support the recording of more than two channels at a time to make multi-channel recordings.

SOLUTION #1

If you want to monitor a spectrogram and/or waveform while recording, we recommend that you use an audio application that supports multi-channel recording. One popular choice is Audacity. There is a lotof documentation for Audacity available online. Try doing a Google search or YouTube search on AUDACITY plus the feature you are interested in. A search on “audacity multi-channel recording” turned up several options, including an article from the Audacity manual, Multi-channel Recording.

SOLUTION #2

If you really want to use Raven to record more than two channels, you must use an deprecated version, Raven Pro 1.4 (32-bit). We do not normally support the use of Raven Pro 1.4 because it hasn’t been maintained for several years, and because it does not have the years of improvements and bug fixes that went into Raven Pro 1.6.

RECORDING DEVICE

To record more than two channels in Raven connect a recorder to your computer that supports recording more than two channels, and select that device in Raven’s Configure New Recorder dialog. Some recorders may have several entries in the “Device” menu, and it may be that not all of them are capable of recording on more than two channels.

If your recorder appears in Device Manager (in Windows) or System Preferences (Mac OS), and does not appear in the Device menu in Raven’s Configure New Recorder dialog or does appear but does not support multi-channel recording, you may have to install an ASIO device driver. Consult the owners manual or online support for your recorder. National Instruments DAQ (NIDAQ) device drivers are also compatible with Raven.

If you cannot find success with an device driver supplied by the manufacturer of your recording hardware, some Raven users have reported success with ASIO device drivers like ASIO4ALL. Try doing a Google search on ASIO DRIVER and installing some of the drivers you find.
