The Future of Raven Software
Introducing Raven Workbench
Yang Center programmers are developing the next generation of Raven software, a collection of four applications collectively called Raven Workbench, which we plan to distribute free of charge to both by the end of the year.
- Raven Annotate: The review, annotation, and measurement of spectrograms and oscillograms.
- Raven Expedition: The display and annotation of long-term spectral averages.
- Raven Intelligence: The detection and classification of sounds using machine learning models.
- Raven Compass: The preparation of batches of sound files for sound analysis, performing such tasks as changing audio file format, audio encoding, sample rate, bit depth, and file name.
These applications are currently in beta development and user documentation is still incomplete. We are still adding features at this point. If, understanding this, you would like to evaluate the latest beta releases, you can find download links for the pre-release versions and draft documentation below:
- Product Overview – Product overviews for each Raven Expedition app.
- Quick Start Guide – Includes download links at the top of each page.
- Raven Workbench Wiki – New but will soon become the primary source of user documentation.
Please tell us about any bugs you find and share your feature requests and suggestions for improvement.
Planned Retirement of Raven Pro 1.6
Once we announce the release of all four Raven Workbench apps, hopefully by the end of this year, we plan to retire Raven Pro and Raven Lite. The installers and documentation will still be available online for at least two years, but we will no longer sell licenses.
When we retire Raven Pro, we will push out the final version, Raven Pro 1.6.6. Users will be able to register this software by accepting a license agreement. Serial numbers will no longer be required to register Raven Pro. At that time, both Raven Pro and the Raven Workbench application will be free for all users, both commercial and non-commercial.
